Phishing, but not the recreational kind

This is a friendly reminder to be wary of emails that appear in your inbox and seem phishy. If you are ever unsure of a message (or even if you are sure), you can forward it to phishing@umn.edu for review. Learn more at z.umn.edu/catchaphish.

A recent, known email scam includes the exploitation of recent active shooters on campus to send people into a panic, causing you to click by reflex. If you see emails with the following titles, pause before you click and consider forwarding the message to phishing@umn.edu:
  • “IT DESK: Security Alert Reported on Campus”
  • “IT DESK: Campus Emergency Scare”
  • “IT DESK: Security Concern on Campus Earlier”
