ASR All Staff Assembly

Join us for the first ASR All-Staff Assembly of the new year! These monthly meetings replace the in-service meetings and are ASR-wide. We will gather on Thursday, February 28 from 8:00-9:00 a.m. in Fraser 101. There is a link to join remotely via WebEx in the calendar hold.

This month we’ll hear about what each ASR unit is working on. Each director will give a brief talk about their unit, the projects underway, and anything else that they wish to share.

All staff are encouraged to attend whether in person or remotely. We understand that it may not be feasible for all staff to attend in person or online. We will record meetings when possible.

OCM’s 2018 year in review

The Office of Classroom Management (OCM) manages 393 learning spaces across the Twin Cities campus and schedules over 11,000 classes in those spaces per year. That’s a lot of work! They recently completed an OCM annual report: 2018 Year in Review (pdf). Take a look. Projects include the Bruininks Hall technology updates and a partnership with the Carlson School of Management to renovate two classrooms.

Clear your cache for privacy and security requirements

We end up with a lot of stored information on our computers, often unintentionally, as we go about our work. To safeguard data and keep things tidy, clear your cache and empty your computer’s download folder(s) periodically. This helps ASR comply with privacy and security requirements such as the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act.

Department of Education Negotiated Rulemaking

Tina Falkner has been selected to serve as an alternate negotiator representing four-year public institutions for the current round of Negotiated Rulemaking with the federal Department of Education (ED). She will sit in on all the negotiations and confer with the primary negotiator about the proposed regulatory changes to the Higher Education Act (HEA) drafted and circulated by ED.

The ultimate goal of this kind of rulemaking is that all parties involved reach consensus on the proposed regulatory changes. This covers a wide variety of topics ranging from eliminating the definition of the credit hour to expanding the types of institutions that are eligible to participate in federal Title IV financial aid programs. You can read the proposed redlines of the portions of HEA that are being negotiated.

ASR representation with government leader meetings

Nate Peterson, One Stop Student Services, participated in a few recent public meetings to help shed light on the impacts to students during the federal shutdown. Though there have been minimal impacts on student financial aid programs, the shutdown has caused confusion and stress for many students and families. Nate participated in three recent events:

Sexual misconduct training

The Preventing and Responding To Sexual Misconduct training will be assigned to new University employees within 30 days of their start date. Once the new employee receives the training invitation, they have 30 days to complete the training. There are plans to offer a refresher training related to sexual misconduct starting next fall to all continuing employees.

One Stop 2018 satisfaction survey results

Every year One Stop Student Services sends out a satisfaction survey to students served during the fall. We ask for feedback on our service standards (knowledge, efficiency, empathy, welcoming) so we can continue to improve our services to students. In 2018 we increased our satisfaction percentages in all areas. This equates to an overall 6% increase in customer service satisfaction over last year.
