One Stop website redesign demo event

All university staff and faculty are invited to join a virtual event about the upcoming launch of the redesigned One Stop website. Many of you have already seen an overview of the new One Stop site, but for our student support partners across the system, this will be a first look.

Please join us for a demo if you’d like to see the latest and greatest version of the site and learn how a focus on user experience influenced the site’s redesign. You can register for the event below.

We will also provide details on how you can participate in the upcoming soft-launch to familiarize yourselves with the new website before it’s made public to students. This event will be recorded and posted on the One Stop website upgrade project page so that anyone unable to attend will still have an opportunity to review all of the information.

Staff recognition

We have a lot to celebrate this issue! First we want to give a major hooray and thank you to the staff from across ASR who worked on the changes to verification for 2022-2023. Members from the Office of Student Finance, ASR-IT, ASRUX, One Stop Student Services, and all University campuses worked quickly to implement system changes and send communications to students about these updates. A special thanks goes to Deb Edwards and Ali Facklam for their strong documentation from previous years that helped move this process forward! We couldn’t have done this without you!

We also want to send out kudos to everyone who worked on migrating the Astra ARF out of WorkFlowGen and into TeamDynamix. A special shout out goes to Jenn Selander for working with OIT on that transition. Way to go!

Lastly we wanted to share that Ali Bosco from UMR One Stop received the Outstanding Service Award for 2021-2022 for all of her great work over the last year. Congratulations Ali!

June is LGBTQIA+ Pride Month!

LGBTQIA+ Pride Month is celebrated each year in June to honor the 1969 Stonewall Uprising. Spearheaded by trans people of color, Stonewall was a pivotal moment that served as a tipping point for the Gay Liberation Movement in the United States. Pride was initially celebrated on the anniversary of the beginning of the Stonewall Uprising and it has since grown to be a month-long celebration of the LGBTQIA+ community.

As we celebrate LGBTQIA+ pride this month, it is also an opportunity for allies to support the community in ways that last beyond the end of June. Allyship extends beyond your proximity to the LGBTQIA+ community; in addition to supporting your queer friends and family, allyship requires an active role in fighting to end the harmful practices that target the community.

We encourage you to support and uplift the community this month and seek out ways to continue that support in the remaining months.

Food and drink in Northrop

The Surdyk’s cafe closed in Northrup and a new cafe will be opening in its former location in late summer 2022. The new cafe will provide a great option for coffee, hot or cold lunches, and snacks. Until it opens, you can find alternative food and drink options available at Coffman Memorial Union.

Office ergonomics

As we set up our new offices in Williamson Hall, it’s a good reminder to check out the office ergonomics resources offered by the University. Our work often involves heavy use of computers, including typing, mousing, and data entry. Such work can lead to disabling injuries such as carpal tunnel syndrome and neck and back strain. For this reason, the University provides assistance in evaluating and modifying physical workstations to reduce the risk of injury. In-person evaluations are available, as well as self-assessments and distance evaluations. You can also visit the showroom in Boynton Health Service to try out different equipment.

ASR Staff Engagement June 2 survey

This week’s ASR Staff Engagement Survey June 2, 2022 takes a look at professional development courses. Thank you for continuing to share your stories and experiences.

According to the last survey, most are using the new focus time feature on their Google calendar (48.3%). When asked whether you plan out your work days using Google calendar, most indicated that they do plan out their work days (58.6%) followed by 27.6% who sometimes plan out their day there.

Most report that they sometimes check someone’s calendar before instant messaging them depending on who they are messaging (55.2%) followed by 37.9% who usually check someone’s calendar. Finally, we asked about your favorite things about summer. Camping and grilling were the most frequent responses. Fresh air, long days of sunshine, and plants were also frequently mentioned. Thanks all for your continued participation! It is very much appreciated.

Unit updates: Office of Student Finance

•  Financial Aid disbursement for summer 2022 begins Monday, June 6 for all non-MED careers (the MED career is disbursed earlier).
• On Thursday, May 18, 2022, the Department of Education issued guidance once again suspending all FAFSA Verifications and requirements for the 2022-2023 academic year. Twin Cities OSF, FA-IT, and ASRUX staff worked all week to waive checklists, add PeopleSoft comments, and send communications to students for all campuses. Approximately 4,000 checklist items were waived for 1,500 students, creating a large bump in estimated financial aid packages. On average at this time there are less than 20 students packaged per day, but there were 422 in one day after waiving the checklist items! Thank you TEAM!!
