Reminder to enroll your devices for Duo Security

The Office of Information Technology (OIT) recently announced the University's transition to a new cloud-based, two-factor authentication solution, Duo Security. This will provide users with easier access to enterprise-level applications and systems. The transition also means M Key authentication will be decommissioned and staff will need to switch to Duo Security by May 21, 2014.

If you haven't already done so, you'll need to set up your office telephone, cell phone or another device to use Duo, or request a new Duo hardware token. If you have been assigned an M Key, you will need it to start the enrollment process. Visit the Two-Factor Authentication website for complete information and resources about Duo Security.

Once enrolled in Duo, please return your M Key to Data Security. You can continue to use your M Key until May 21, 2014. Both M Key and Duo will work during the transition period. Please contact Technology Help at (612) 301-4357 (1-HELP on campus) with any questions.

Professional development opportunities

The University offers many professional development opportunities, and ASR staff are encouraged to take advantage of the workshops and training through the Office of Equity and Diversity (OED) and the Office of Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action. You can view current offerings by visiting the OED website.

ASR conference room upgrades

Classroom Technical Services (CTS) is in the process of updating the conference room technology in Williamson Hall 160B, 162, and 164. The rooms will offer a 70" display, installed computer, webcam, and ceiling microphones for use with Google Hangouts video conferencing. Williamson 160B has been completed, and the other rooms will be available next week.

Fraser 261 also had a new router installed to improve wireless connectivity.

Used equipment lottery

ASR has two retired 60-inch Sharp LED TVs available for sale for $250 apiece. The sale will be through an ASR-only used equipment lottery. If you are interested in buying one of them, please respond via the Used Equipment Lottery form by 4 p.m. on Friday, May 2, 2014.

A random drawing will take place Monday, May 5, 2014 to announce the winners. The drawing will occur in Williamson 160, but you do not need to be present at the time to win. Winners will be notified by email. Payment must be made in cash.

Please note the TVs will be sold "as is." This means ASR is selling, and the buyer is buying, an item in whatever condition it presently exists, and that the buyer is accepting the item "with all faults," whether or not immediately apparent.

New online scholarship application

In an effort to help students apply for all scholarships they may be eligible for in one place, the Office of Student Finance (OSF) has created an online scholarship application. Students can access the online scholarship application using their University ID/password. The application tool currently includes four OSF scholarships and recognizes the student based on his or her login information. The application will soon be expanded to also include scholarships available through a student's college, department(s), and other University units.

The tool automatically merges student data collected by the Admissions, Registrar, and Financial Aid offices, which eliminates the need for a student to enter data the University already has on file. OSF staff are able to use the tool to manage application cycles, edit application questions, review student submissions, and streamline their awarding process.

Live Like a Student submits request for grant funding

One Stop's Live Like a Student (LLAS) campaign has a lot to celebrate this spring! After experiencing a successful 2013-14, LLAS has submitted requests for grant funding. The additional funding will help form the future of the campaign's financial literacy outreach, including the formation of a peer mentoring program and certifying One Stop counselors as personal financial managers.

2014 ASR priorities

ASR directors are currently planning a roadmap for their 2014 priorities. The roadmap will detail where the organization is headed and reaffirm ASR's mission, vision, and values. Directors have also met with supervisors to help develop short-term goals and initiatives, as well as long-term strategies. ASR will also ensure its priorities aligns with the University strategic plan.
