Update from Stacey

Thank you for participating in the ASR picnic! It is such a pleasure to bring ASR together and create new relationships and refresh existing relationships.

SR-IT interim plans

Marc Keavany’s last day with ASR-IT as the Student Records-IT director will be Friday, July 26. Marc has been a valuable member of ASR, and we wish him all the best in his new role in the Office of Information Technology. Since he’ll be in OIT, we know where to find him when we need him! Plans are currently underway for the interim. Jenny Dalton will be taking the role as interim Student Records-IT director while continuing to supervise Admissions-IT. Further updates will be shared as soon as they are available.

Policy update for Student Services Fee

The Student Services Fee policy was approved in June as a new stand-alone administrative policy. The Student Services Fee was previously only covered as a section in the Board of Regents policy on Tuition and Fees. The new policy provides a framework for implementing and administering the Board of Regents policy.

Previously, the fee was assessed based on the number of on-campus credits a student was enrolled in. Starting with fall 2024, off-campus and online courses will be included in the calculation to determine if the fee will be assessed. The fee is mandatory for all students enrolled in a degree program and registered for six or more credits per semester or three or more credits per summer session.

The Student Services Fee assessment criteria had not been evaluated since 2005, and the way students take courses and access resources funded by the fee has changed significantly over the last 20 years. This change helps ensure students can get the support they need to be active, engaged members of the campus community through student centers, recreational centers, health and wellness services, student activities and organizations, and more.

A small team within ASR has been working to ensure a smooth implementation of this change. This includes updating the PeopleSoft set up, retiring the Student Services Fee Waiver (following the deadline for summer terms), updating the One Stop website, preparing One Stop counselors for expected questions from students, and communicating with the advising and student services communities at the University. If you have questions or concerns about this effort, please contact the project leader, Karen Magness (kmagness@umn.edu).

Nicholson building renaming

Nicholson Hall is now 216 Pillsbury Drive (different from Pillsbury Hall). The change is already reflected in PeopleSoft and on exterior signage. All other changes should be in effect by July 31.

Project prioritization for next quarter

The OSI Projects team prioritized 9 projects for the Quarterly Planning Period 1 (Q1) of 2025, which starts in August. This is in addition to the 12 projects that are currently in the analysis or implementation phase. A comprehensive view is available on the ASR Project Plan Preview.

Any project requests that were not prioritized for the upcoming planning period will be held in the Project backlog for reconsideration in either the Mid-Quarter Review or the next Quarterly Planning Period. If you would like to submit a project request for the next Quarterly Planning Prioritization, Q2 2025, you can do so via the ASR Project Request form.

Are you interested in joining the ASR DEI Committee?

The ASR Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee was formed to better understand diversity, equity, and inclusion topics and how they could be integrated throughout ASR. The committee is currently seeking enthusiastic new members who will further its mission of providing a welcoming environment for all. At this time, we are gauging staff interest in the committee and intend to onboard new members in fall 2024.

Committee members:
  • Participate in weekly 1-hour committee meetings.
  • Occasionally contribute 1-2 hours of weekly committee work outside of the meeting time. (Additional time may be needed depending on committee project work.)
  • Participate in discussions and openly share feedback, thoughts, and ideas with the team.
  • Serve as a liaison for your unit by bringing information from the committee meetings to colleagues in your unit, and also request input and ideas from your unit and bring that back to the committee.
If interested, please speak with your supervisor and complete the ASR DEI Committee Membership Interest form. If you want more information about the ASR DEI Committee, please visit the ASR DEI webpage on the ASR Staff site or email a current committee member directly. Submitting this interest form does not constitute a commitment to join the committee. We believe this work has never been more important than it is today. We hope you will join us!
