Much of the work performed in ASR can be categorized as project work, or work with a start and end that creates a specific or unique outcome. Bringing project management principles and best practices to ASR enables us to effectively lead projects, or when participating in projects, to understand the principles of project management. The Project Work Facilitation team has created a series of courses to help you think through the various aspects of effective project management. These courses will be integrated into ASR’s new employee orientation programs, but current employees are welcome and encouraged to attend if the subject interests you or is part of your professional development plan. These courses will take the place of the PM Roundtables that many of you are familiar with and have participated in over the years.
The curriculum:
PWF 101 - What is Project Management?
An introductory course intended to provide a high-level understanding of the project management life cycle, its benefits, and ASR’s base level expectations for managing project work.

PWF 201 - Making Projects Work
Intermediate level project management course intended to further develop an understanding of project management methodology and incorporate skills relevant to developing a plan and leading a team through a project. This will include topics such as work breakdown structures, meeting facilitation, and stakeholder engagement.

PWF 301 - Specialized Topics
Advanced level courses intended to take a deeper dive on a variety of topics such as contingency planning, project management tools, cost benefit analysis. Presenters can be experts within ASR and around the University. PM 301 will take the place of Project Management Round Tables.
