One Stop 2018 satisfaction survey results

Every year One Stop Student Services sends out a satisfaction survey to students served during the fall. We ask for feedback on our service standards (knowledge, efficiency, empathy, welcoming) so we can continue to improve our services to students. In 2018 we increased our satisfaction percentages in all areas. This equates to an overall 6% increase in customer service satisfaction over last year. View the One Stop 2018 satisfaction survey results infographic.

New! Destiny One - Salesforce integration

Working together with OIT, the Destiny One and Custom Solutions teams have delivered the first live integration between Destiny One (non-credit registration system) and Salesforce (constituent relationship management software). The aim of this project was to allow colleges that use both systems see a record of students' non-credit activity alongside their broader interactions with the University in Salesforce. In the first phase of this project, we focused on integrating data for the College of Continuing and Professional Studies (CCAPS). Next, the project team is looking to expand this to other colleges. This integration creates new opportunities for service to students.

Undergraduate degree progress dashboard released

The ASR Student Data and Analytics team released the first version of their Undergraduate Degree Progress dashboard at the end of December. This tool is one in a suite of work being done by the team as part of the Student Success Analytics initiative.

The dashboard provides an interactive and aggregate view around undergraduate degree progress and gives users the ability to see how students are progressing toward timely graduation. Using new data about degree-applicable credits, the dashboard gives users a more accurate picture of student progress. The dashboard and training for the tool were demonstrated to a group of key stakeholders on January 4. Using the feedback and insight from that meeting, the team will refine their presentation before beginning their training sessions with small collegiate teams beginning in February.

1098-T for tax year 2018

The University (and any eligible education institution) is required to provide a 1098-T form to any student who was enrolled and paid qualified tuition and related expenses during the previous calendar year. We do this for each student we enroll and for whom a reportable transaction is made (read more about 1098-T from the IRS). The data on the 1098-T may be used to report eligible amounts when filing annual income taxes. For tax year 2018, the 1098-T forms produced in January 2019, have been changed to use the Charges Paid reporting method to meet IRS requirements. The University had used the Charges Billed method since 2003. The University is required to send these by January 31.

For more information about the 1098-T, the working group created a 1098-T Quick Guide. You can also find more about education tax credits on the U of M Tax Management website.

Note: Non-Resident Aliens (Alien Temporary in some PeopleSoft fields) and University of Minnesota Talented Youth Mathematics Program (UMTYMP) are excluded.

All staff are required to take PM 101: Introduction to Project Management Fundamentals. See the PM 101 schedule.

All courses in the PM series are offered three times per year. We also have an introductory SQL tutorial, and a workshop on using data to inform decision making, each offered twice per year. For more information, visit ASR Project Short Courses.

Ugly sweater potluck, December 2018

Thanks to all who partied the ugly sweater potluck in December, and to Holly Johnson for taking these photos. Everyone had a great time! Here are a few of the ugly sweaters that showed up (ugly in a good way, of course). Everyone looked great!

Sending communications about the start of spring semester

Around the start of each semester, the Communications team sends out key messaging to students, faculty, and staff to support a smooth start to the term. We target these messages to specific groups at specific times. Here are a few highlights of what we’re sending this spring:
  • Reminders to students about the first day of attendance policy, the 13-credit policy, billing statements, registration dates, One Stop hours, and an encouragement to capture their class schedule ahead of time. We deliver this information through email, MyU, and student newsletters as appropriate.
  • Reminders to instructors about the first day of attendance policy, grades, class schedules and rosters, and classroom resources.
  • Reminders to staff about extended One Stop service hours, scheduling and classroom support, and encouragement to help faculty with rosters and class locations.
For questions about these communications, contact Carin Thoms (ande8670@umn.edu).
